Fayetteville City Council to consider amendments to short-term rental ordinance | Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

The city's short-term rental ordinance separates residential property rented for fewer than 30 days into two categories: Type 1 and Type 2. Type 1 requires an owner or occupant to occupy the residence for at least nine months of the year. There is no cap on the number of Type 1 short-term rentals allowed in the city. Type 2 does not require a permanent resident and allows for the residence to be used as a full-time short-term rental. Only 475 Type 2 rentals are permitted citywide. The city defines a short-term rental as a residence being leased out for fewer than 30 days. A license is required to operate both types of short-term rental properties, but a conditional-use permit is also required before a property owner can get a license to operate…...

Torrance Dejuan Farmer, 51, of North Storer Avenue in Fayetteville was convicted in August after a two-day jury trial in federal court. He was sentenced Friday to 248 months in prison. A Fayetteville police officer located Farmer's vehicle near Drake Street and Farmer and his wife fled from the pursuing officer, according to the release. During the pursuit, the officer observed Farmer throw the firearm from the vehicle onto the overpass of Interstate 49. Shortly thereafter, the pursuit ended, and Farmer and his wife were taken into custody. Farmer was arrested on suspicion of stalking, terroristic threatening, unlawful discharge…...

Students participating in the event will camp out in temporary shelters on Bulldog Boulevard from 5-11 p.m., accepting cash and nonperishable food donations to support classmates and their families who are unhoused. All proceeds go toward the district's Families in Transition program. School Board President Tim Hudson usually attends the event but will be out of town this year.
